OVERVIEW
“Friends Don’t Let Friends Buy PCs” Startup Screen features this catchy phrase in that annoying Windows95-esque style that we’ve been inundated with for far too long. In the bottom right-hand corner, you’ll find a “recycled” PC with a smashed monitor—a result, no doubt, of frustration with that lame operating system. (Recycle those PCs. After all, maybe someone like Power Computing can put a real computer—a Mac, of course—into those drab, lifeless cases.)
FEE
Shareware fee: $1.00 for each computer on which this startup screen is installed. Mail your shareware fee to the address listed at the end of this document.
INSTALLATION
Under System 7, make sure the startup screen is named “StartupScreen”. Move it to the System Folder. (If you already have a startup screen installed, you may wish to rename it rather than replace it. Something like “StartupScreen-original” works fine. It also makes it easy for you to switch startup screens when you get bored with one.) Restart your computer, and voila!
DISTRIBUTION
This startup screen may be distributed to others via diskette, modem or online service, incorporation into shareware packages, etc. as long as the entire “Friends Don’t Let Friends Buy PCs” package is included in its entirety. Contents of this package include the startup screen itself and this documentation file. Shareware software providers, such as Educorp, may distribute this startup screen under the same conditions. It would also be greatly appreciated if you would inform me that you are distributing it.
USAGE
This startup screen may be used as a startup screen only. Use, modification, or incorporation of this image in any other manner is strictly prohibited without my written permission.
This startup screen has been tested on both a Macintosh Quadra 800 and a PowerBook 180c, both running system 7.1. If you have problems using this startup screen on other machines or system software versions, please write or e-mail me at address listed at the end of this document.
This startup screen is currently available only in color. If there are enough requests, I will release a black and white version, so be sure to write or e-mail me if you would like such a version.
